ive referred a lot of people on this forum to a site called widescreen.org. This site is one of the best out there for explaining the difference of f/f to w/s.
widescreen.org/examples shows the difference between the two. Printing out one of these example pages makes a big impact in your store
if you are wanting the customers to learn about w/s and offering them more for their money.
We used to do a 50/50 split on fullframe copies, then it started to go 2:1 in favour of widescreen. About a year ago, we started bringing in only w/s.
Yes, you get black bars on a square tv, but you are gaining more. We have a 13" square tv in the bedroom, and if we were to watch a movie, it would still be widescreen, because you miss out on sooooo much of the movie. I wont even take home the fullscreen versions of the movie if i want to watch that movie, cuz i really hate not seeing the full picture.
Our full frame stock of movies arent worth as much as the widescreen, because the demand for them has vanished, kind of like the demand for vhs. If we cant get our customers to accept change of f/f to w/s, how the hell are we going to get them into blu-ray, like videovault said.
When we first introduced dvd, we had customers bring up the dvd case and say that they want this movie, but on vhs.......
