This has been going on for months now.

Lord Of War - No Full screen
The Man - No Full screen

Is this just my Walmart or yours too?

Mine usually has both, if available.  I will make sure to check those titles and report back...

I would love some help with this.  If anyone is willing to call several locations that surrond them, please let me know your metropolitan area as well.  I know of at least 4 Walmarts surronding me that do not carry them (unless it is the only option).

BTW....Birmingham Alabama.

Walmart here carries both but I have noticed that they been cutting back on the 14.99 NRs the first week.  They seem to have only one title at a reduced price and now its 16.99 and its not posted. You get the discount when you check out.

This week I noticed that they have also cut back on the big huge displays.

Maybe they finally realized that this loss leaders are not working much anymore.

I often go to Cirduit City.  Today they had "Lord of War" FS & WS but "Two For the Money" was only available there WS.  I was suprised that they had both FS & WS on "Lord of War" as it usual for them to only have WS

A more pressing question would be: Why do they even bother to release FS versions of movies at all?

By the way, the answer to your question is..."Cause for some strange reason, some people still want and prefer it."

I just called our local Walmart (Cartersville, GA) and, if the person I spoke with in electronics is to be believed, they ONLY have full screen of those titles.
BTW, what are the first week discounts like in your area Walmarts?

Walmart sets their prices based on the local competition, if you have Best Buy, Circuit City and Target in the neighborhood, you should be getting the lowest prices at Walmart, however if there is no immediate low price competitors, Walmart is right there with the $19.95 price points.  Case in point is my local town's Walmart, high priced and won't budge...I drive 25 minutes away and save $5 per DVD.  Fortunately, both a Best Buy and Circuit City are being built within a mile of my local Walmart so I won't have to take the drive every Tuesday.  If you have a local low price competitor of Walmart and Walmart hasn't lowered their prices, just bring in the insert from the Sunday Paper and Walmart will match or beat by a penny.

I don't really care why people want Fullscreen.  All I know is that they do, so I should provide it.  What I don't understand is why a "non-super center" Walmart in a rural town where technology is adopted slowly (i.e. widescreen TV's), chooses not to carry the Fullscreen version of "The Man" which is a comedy that can be enjoyed by an entire family in front of their 27" TV.

Seems ridiculous to me.  Especially since Walmart gets their movies on consignment and therefore an overstock of FS or WS would make no difference.

For me, I can only afford the Widescreen TV in my living room.  In my bedroom, it's a standard 20" TV.  If I'm heading home and it's late and I know I'll be watching a movie in bed...absolutely, I'll grab the Fullscreen version first.

Offering your customers fewer choices is almost always a bad business decision.

If anyone is willing to call around to their local Walmarts and gather this info, please do.  I've currently made my way up the ladder to Management in distribution.  I seriously doubt that I make any impact on them, but I can show a small amount of buying power, especially with the help of others here.  I don't want to insult anyone there, but I could seriously show them a stack of movie receipts from 2005 that will total more than their salary.

Okay,

Talked with the "Electronics Department Manager" at the local Wallyworld.  He said that they bring in FS to WS in about a 3:2 ratio if both are available.  Also said that he didn't know why they did this as they run out of WS VERY quickly and the FS takes much longer to move.
