I found this link interesting... http://www.vsda.org/Resource.phx/html/vvarchive/sept2003/road.html

Seems that they are still planning on closing their DB to non-members...
Quote
In the near future, non-members will be able to read VSDA?s Discussion Board for six months (and post during that same period for a $50 fee, applicable toward their first year?s VSDA membership dues).  During those six months they will come to better know VSDA, and all members will have the opportunity to encourage the non-member to join and strengthen the industry, or after this trial period their ability to access the Discussion Board will be denied.

Anyone else see the glaring flaw in this little plan? How can members convince non-members to join when they cannot post? Before this whole DB thing started I wanted to join the VSDA. Circumstances (no money:) ) made me wait on that. Now I have no desire to. It is sad too because at one time it sounds like it was a great organization.

The VSDA plan to close their db to non-members is the stupidest idea I ever heard.  The staff should try walking into a non-chain video store sometime, just to get an idea of what they are doing.

How about if I close my store to non-members.  If someone wants to join, they have to stand outside and ask to join from the outside just to come in, without seeing what is inside.

The VSDA is run by people without a clue.

I just joined the Video Butyers Group and it is far more IVR friendly and worth the money.

See right now I am too small to join either. I am hoping to soon move into a much larger location, then when revenue picks up I can look at that type of stuff.

Ok to be honest, VSDA is no longer a choice, simply because not one person has given me a reason to. Most people seem to join to go to the events and such. Well to be perfectly honest I ran several dot coms over the years, I went to a LOT of events. Had private tours of art galleries, shown the very document that founded Canada, done the whole panel stuff. Well you know what came out of each of those events? Not a darn thing. Smiley DB's and 1 on 1 interaction is where things get done. Through this very DB I found my new distributor for rental priced movies, and for the first time since I opened almost 2 years ago I am getting my movies on Thursday or Friday instead of Monday or Tuesday (usually Tuesday).
