Hi Gang...for the last 2 weeks we have been testing the new RTI machine This machine removes light scratches in 30 seconds and can remove medium scratches in 1-2 minutes IMO this machine will be very good at maintaining our rental inventory stock The cost is $1,495.00 A 600 minute supply kit is $75.00 It is super quiet. It has a BluRay setting.

Is it as good as he Eco auto-smart. I've had that machine for about a year and the only discs I have trouble fixing are CD's

This machine is LESS abrasive than the ECO SMART and is not designed to work on DEEP scratches. We are using our ECO PRO to maintain our rental inventory and repair trade in DVD that only have minor damage I am confused as to why you have had trouble fixing CDs? Perhaps those CDs were scratched from the TOP SIDE...if you hold the disc up to a light and can see through it the disc cannot be fixed because the data layer has been destroyed.

It has trouble getting all of the scratches off even when I use the highest setting (red pad is used twice). Although some of the scratches are still visible you can no longer feel them and so far no customer has brought them back to complain. I tried running the discs through twice and they don't look any better than the 1st time.

Even though I am out of the rental business, I still have a store front (print & copy shop & also a resale shop) I am wondering if there is a market for cleaning/polishing customer owned DVDs, CDS, & Game disks? Is there a machine that I could buy for low cost so I could try this venture out? Are you all making any money on this service?

We gross $300 to $400 per month from disc repairs but without the customer flow of a video rental store I do NOT think your idea would work.

I agree with Tom. With out foot traffic your income would not be worth the expenditure.

Hmmm, well certainly not if I were to buy a $1500 machine, but aren't there any less expensive? AND there is no one offering any buffing/cleaning service for 20+ miles in ANY direction.

sure. there are less expensive machines. None that are state of the art though. RTI is top dog in the field. you can spend 300-500 for something else but when a customer comes in and you have to tell them that you can't remove that scratch because your machine has limitations, will that customer come back? Will they send other customers your way? Is that the kind of word of mouth you want? Do it right or don't do it. You have more to lose by doing it poorly than by not doing it al all.

I posted this on the facebook group but I don't know which one people frequent the most so...
Given a choice between a reconditioned ECO Smart for $1650 or a new ECO Pro for $1500, which would you guys choose?
Most of the repairs I do are light to medium and I have a JFJ machine I could keep around for sanding out deep scratches; then run the disc through the ECO Pro to finish the job.

When I try to use the sanding pads, they cause a ring around the center and the disc won't play at all then. Am I doing something wrong? It won't buff out either.

I get that ring too if I use the soft sanding paper but the coarse pad seems to be fine. Not sure if it's a problem with the sand paper or with the black pad it's mounted on. Next time I load up fresh sand paper I'm going to switch black pads to see if it makes the coarse one have problems.
Someone has posted that it's a problem with the arms in the machine, so it could be that as well.

I suppose you mean the machine JFJ, I use it for 5 years and also had problems with soft sandpaper but now I have no problem using the soft sandpaper always for only 20 seconds. now use a liquid sandpaper, provided by www.discmagic.netit works well and replace the sandpaper, if not used as the third step after the sandpaper. I hope you understand as I use google translator to communicate with you.
