Overhyped, but still good.  I'm chomping at the bit to get this one, it's going to be HUGE at my store.

This is NOT about the movie being OVERHYPED or GOOD...it is about the studio being stupid

Stupidity has often translated to big rentals for me.  This one will the best example of the year.

The stupid part is allowing this movie to be played in a discount theatre just 15 days after it was released  Roll Eyes

Oh, I totally agree.  They'll blame us rental stores I'm sure for that one.

Tom,

So they should have let it go back to the depot and sit on the shelf while people forget about it?  It went to the discount house quickly b/c it did poorly over the initial 2 weeks.  The theater business is no different than the video business.  You have a short period of time get them in.  BTW, it depends on the individual market when a title goes discount with Universal.  Universal moves them as soon as the 1st-run is done with them.  Sometimes it is 2 weeks, sometimes it is 10 weeks.

Mike, my point was that IMO the studios are sending the wrong message to the movie going public. The first run theatre across the street charges $8.25 and the discount theatre charges $1.50  Shocked

I could see where many would say "let's wait 2 weeks and save $6.75 per tickets". Now I know that most movies don't go to discount theatres after 2 weeks but this pricing could create a perception that they do.
