Hey there, I've started thinking about opening a video store in a medium sized town (80,000 or so) in the Northwest. There are 2 other indies in this town, and a Hollywood and Blockbuster, but none in the downtown core area, where a lot of people are. There is no laundromat or late night coffee either, so I was thinking of having a) the largest selection of any of the indies b) hours: 12noon to 2am every day c) have espresso / snacks d) have a laundromat in the back with a large screen tv and couches where you could watch any movies in stock e) have theme days, like simpsons saturdays with simpsons episodes playing all day for laundry customers
My questions: 1) What do you think? 2) Given that rent will be in the $1200-2000 range, could this be profitable? 3) Would anyone care to share what kind of net profit they get? Is this a very profitable business, or just barely? 4) How much startup cash would be good for something like this? Would $50,000 more than cover it, including getting a great selection of DVDs/VHS?
Thanks! I'm looking forward to any responses... Glad this forum is here. If there are any other comments/suggestions, please let me know.
