Who makes their own loop dvd and why?

I do because I like the control. Mine is auto play and repeat and JUST has the movies I want to push.

I use download the movies using Quicktime, then convert them to mpg's using Tmpgenc. Then I use a combination of Virtualdub and Tmpgenc again to add my logo to the upper left hand corner with 50% transparency so it doesn't impede the trailer. I also put the name of the movie in the black band at the bottom (because most trailers I can get are for the theatrical version and thus widescreen). Then I just use vcdeasy to burn the vcd and oila I am done. Smiley

Sounds a lot more difficult than it is. Once I get a movie done it is done, so all I have to do is do the new movies. I try and do it about every 2 weeks, pushing the trailers for movies that people wouldn't look at much like Danny Deckchair and leaving off movies that SUCKED. :-P

How long does it take you to make one loop DVD? Sounds like 3-4 hours of solid downloading/encoding work to me.

I rip my trailers from new release DVDs then compile them onto a new DVD-R with Tmpgenc DVD Authur.  I create 2  tracks, 1 for 4:3 trailers and 1 for 16:9 trailers (because each video on the track must match formats).  And I use Goldwave to perform a batch process against the audio so that those formats match also.

When I make a new DVD next week, I'll right down the process step-by-step for everyone to use.  The only part I won't teach is you is how to copy the trailer from the DVD because that is technically illegal.

I wish there were a way for Tmpgenc DVD Authur to add a watermark, I like the idea of adding my logo and/or the movie title like Hardcopy.  But my current process does not require any encoding of the video.  So minus the time it takes to copy a trailer from a DVD (which takes about 2 minute per trailer per DVD), I create my DVDs in about 30 minutes.

I've also created a catalog of trailers in Divx format.  I hope to have a Kiosk one day with trailers for each of my movies.  (When I get really bored one day and have $600 to blow).

You can use Virtual Dub to add your logo. It runs pretty quick. You use it to set up a Frame Server then just run it through tmpgenc to create your file.

I don't have a dvd burner, just a cd burner so I have to stick with VCD, but it works fine.

Ah, I see.

I'm guessing that adds a lot of time due to re-encoding the file whether it's already mpeg2 compliant or not.

Hmmm not really, even on my slooooow computer it runs just a little slower than watching it. Virtual Dub basically plays it back while tmpgenc saves it as an mpeg. I probably spend maybe 10 minutes per trailer of prep time.

I also download all my trailers and set them up as a batch conversion then just let it go while I do other stuff. The quicktime to mpeg conversion is what takes some time (another 10 minutes per trailer). But since I only have to do a few a week to keep up with it, it just isn't too bad.

How about just printing your logo on paper, cutting it out and taping it on the corner of the TV?

Assuming that I don't want to add a logoand title  on the bottom, can i use vcdeasy to make a VCD direct from the downloaded Quicktimes?

Nope not directly. You still need to use tmpgenc to convert them to mpgs

I used to do exactly as Hardcopy does.  I would just save them on a DVD as raw MPG files rather than make a DVD-Video disc because our players support it.

Now I play the movie trailer loops supplied to us by Movie Experts.  The only thing I miss is the variety.

Regards,
Sean

I use screenplay's dvds.  www.screenplayinc.com  They are programmable and have a good variety on them and are relatively inexpensive.

What you guys are doing would be great so I could add some of the lesser known titles  (like finders fee, stander, wake of death, etc.) but I just do not have the time to do it.  Kind of like why re-invent the wheel you know.

OK, inspired by our fearless leader Harcopy, I made my disc. It is a 1 hour Video CD with only the clips that I want.

Time spent:
Download clips : 30 minutes
Convert videos: 30 minutes
Burn VCD: 15 minutes

I did all of these steps while behind the counter during the slow period, so it did not feel like a waste of time.
