This whole week was awesome. I haven't done this well since 1997! I sure hope it stays this way.
May God bless each of you.

I too have had a busier week than normal.  Also, has anyone else seen an unusual increase in new customers from netflix. If so any ideas why?

I quit considering Netflix as competition a couple of years ago when I noticed that a lot of their customers use us as well.  If they HAVE to see a whole tv series or new release, they come to me.  One customer said there was a two MONTH wait for SON OF RAMBOW when it was released.  Ouch!

 Cheesy
I have had quite a few customers come back that started using netflix 2 yrs ago. They say the wait is long and they missed us. I also noticed some from redbox stating that their movies were scratched and there wasn't a big selection to choose from.

I also had an ex clerk that I fired for stealing put links on her topix page to many free new release download sites on the internet. She was telling everyone to stop renting at my store and just download free. I highlighted all the links and copied them on my email and sent them to the studio's to stop the pirating. Some of these movies haven't even been in theaters yet. I was shocked at how many people were illegally downloading movies. I turn in all of the illegal sites I can find and I have been explaining to people that they can go to prison for this. A lot of people have been helping me get the names to these sites. If they shut all of these down.... we will all be better off.

 Wink
Update. After advertising on twitter, facebook and my space, my stores have doubled. I thought maybe it was due to the snow, but that's gone. We are just doing great. Lots of new customers and customers that haven't rented for years. My clerks have been asking me what's going on and I explained to them today where I have been advertising. I sure hope it stays this way.

I'm glad you are having this success but what does doubling mean at your store?

Were you doing 20K a month and now you are doing 40k or are we talking 4k to 8k?

It would be nice to be able to put this into perspective.

Also what type of area are you located? I am in a smaller town about 6,000 people and I have tried facebook advertising but it has not been very effective due to the fact that I can not zero in on my zip code the target is to broad and does not work for me.

we have doubled the amount of rentals going out and tanning customers have bought twice as many packages and lotions than they bought at this time the past few years. It is cold and wet, which helps. We live in a town of about 14000. We have 3 video stores and redbox. But we are the busiest. I haven't had any trouble with finding people in my area with facebook, my space or topix.

4000 people with 3 video stores and a redbox???

Is anybody really making a living with that demographic?

just us. One of them it's a tax write off for their other business and the other one very questionable...there is never anyone there. We do very well. We have been blessed. The redbox is always dead. Thank God!

Interesting Stats:  By sheer coincidence, we mailed our 2 for 1 rental postcard last week and the Mid-Atlantic States were hammered by a blizzard this past Saturday.  Our Ingram myvideo store website has already had more hits in the first week of February than the entire month of January which had more hits than December.  On the Friday before the snow, we did more rental business than any day in 2009.  Another major storm is headed our way for Tuesday night into Wednesday.  We are doing daily updates via Facebook promoting our "double feature" along with store hours/closing times due to the weather.  Facebook promotions/updates are deft the way to go.

I messed up on the population. Sorry! It is over 15,000 in our county. When I first wrote it I meant to write 14,000. We have grown a bit.  Undecided

 Grin
This has been our busiest Valetine weekend in a few years. I used the new tanning LAMPS and lotions to get the tanners going and I offered a free visit to new customers....that worked great! All of them came back and bought our valentine special. Every Mon. I list all the new titles of movies and games on topix, facebook and my space and it has helped so much. I've had a lot of new business and all of my regulars. Super Bowl Sunday was awesome too! No complaints at all in my business as of yet. I do dread baseball season coming though. It slows quite a bit and with all the cold and snow lately, everyone has cabin fever. I will keep praying for all the mom & pop video stores! God bless!

Just wondering how many copies you get on a hot title such as Law Abiding Citizen?

For me, that ain't the hot title.  BLACK DYNAMITE is the hot title!
