Hey guys, my Rentrak rep just called with details on the new Warner deal. It is a bit better than the last.
1) Guarantees: Titles that made $80 million or more $7.50. $20 mil - $80 mil $5.50 per unit. Less than $20 mil no guarantee.
2)Lease terms for rental 6 months. Sellthrough 1 year.
3) sellthrough spilt for first 6 months min 50% vs. $5 min. after 6 months - 50% vs $3.5 for Type A. titles. Type B (less than $20 million box office) 50% vs. $2.5. Sellthrough does not count towards guarantees.
4) Destruction - Type A 25% (much better) No destruction on Type B!
These are just the highlights. If I got anything wrong I apologize.
Nick

Yeah, I don't like that part but I still think it's better than last years deal. At least we won't have to destroy all of our excess Harry Potter's or Terminator Salvations when they come out.

When the add up the $1.50 up front fee, the $7.50 guarantee and the $5.00 sell off fee that comes to $14.00 per unit...Walmart will be selling those titles for under $15.00 and I don't have a crazy matrix to deal with

point taken! Unfortunately I don't drive (it's complicated) so it's easier to get from distributers and since Walmart is a 30 min. drive each way, cheaper. I'm not completely satisfied with this deal but I signed with Rentrak so I can get more copies and the cost is split over 6 months.

Rentrak is not for everyone. Thier purpose is to help you get more copies and title depth at less than you would get from distributors. They allow you to get "A" titles for about $12 and "B" titles for $8. You pay per rental instead of upfront.
They seem to work the best if you're compeing with BB, MG, HV, or RB. If you are in an area where the artsy stuff goes better than box office than they may not be right for you, as you will get too many copies of Transformers and not enough of Let the Right One In!
I am quite happy with Rentrak, maybe not with all of the studios that go through them. Lionsgate, Firstlook and Fox have the best output agreements. Sony is fine but they ask for a min. of $8 per copy of anything with B/O over $1 million. Warner is the only output program I'm not entirely happy with. Mainly, destroing product is rediculous. But this year's deal seems better to me than the last, but of course it has its downfalls. Sellthrough does not count towards the $7.50 guarantee and they still require 25% destruction of "A" titles, but that's better than 80%.

My conclusion is that the NEW Warners program sucks 4% more because under the old program we kept 100% of late fees

lol. Quite true, but at least now we'll have more to sell and no guarantee on the "B" titles as opposed to $3 (although easily met).

That would work if they did not audit you on that alone. You have to hold destroyed product for 90 days. Yes, I think that rule is B.S, but if I want to be able to compete N/A wise with BB I need all the help I can get. Now if Next year they add on more stupid stipulations I won't continue with the Warner output

Most of the major studios have a guarantee. Warner - $20 million or greater you must give them $7.50 per copy. Universal - $8 per copy Sony - $8 per copy for anything that makes more than $1 million. Paramount - $8 per copy. Fox, Lionsgate, Summit and the small studios have no guarantee. Basically the guarantees require you to get 5-6 turns per rental. With the exception of Warner's new agreement, the sellthru is included with the guarantee. If you are interested in going with rentrak the phone # is 1-888-735-5915 www.rentrak.com. I know I sound like I am under some kinda Rentrak spell or something but I know that the store I bought 2 years ago would probably not have been there for me to buy if the former owner would not have went with them.
