Is the VSDA Disintegrating before our very eyes?

The discussion boards of the VSDA being essentially taken off-line, are they just a sign that the VSDA is self-destructing? I am not suggesting that this would be a good thing, not in the least.
What I am saying is that since I started this business 1 ½ years ago I have heard so much talk about the ?glory days? of the VSDA and how they aren?t anywhere close to what they once were. If they do disintegrate then there is going to be a void in its place.
The trade magazines give us the information, but is there going to be a need for a new trade association to popup? What do they offer that we can?t live without? In other words, what are we gonna need to replace?
Just curious of everyone?s opinions,
Rich.

Indeed VSDA i think are falling apart. I read and i see maybe one person who said yes to not have non-members post on the db. I see LOT's of member's who are angry. If i paid i would want answer's as well. WHY? $50 dollars for what? They are on crack, I wouln't pay $50 bucks. Granted i had my thoughts of joining back in April. Member's kept saying oh you gotta join it should have been the first thing you did and so on. But to this day i know they fight legal battles. But what does my $279 pay for? How will my busniess benfit from it? After seeing post's back in June from member's saying how VSDA is not showing the numbers and everything i can remember they seem like they don't care about the little guys.
VSDA is making a mistake and they will feel it soon enough. I wanted to wait to join till i knew my store would work and now, No way, Not till VSDA changes it's way's. Not till i see they care about what the members of VSDA think.
Another group? Maybe we might see one. Maybe we might see a bunch of IVR's try to put something together. But what i would want is to be treated like a person, Not just collect my money and say see you next year. Tough question there buddy :-)
But anyways, The db board is what made me learn from others and also what VSDA is all about. They close the db down, How will they get new member's? VSDA took away a tool that helps them bring in member's now we can watch them fall apart.
Thank goodness for this board, IVR's can still talk, And we are all in the same busniess. And it's FREE!

YES
Unless the VSDA stops all it's secret, closed door anti-Independent Video Retailer policies it will die, and unfortunately it's death will be of it's own making.

Pat there is no doubt that some kind of group needs to be in place to look after our collective legal interest maybe if we keep growing and VSDA keeps getting small we might be able to do something, but it has to be something that everybody knows what is going on, my wife is a lawyer and we calculated how many members VSDA has times hours that could be billed for there legal and lobying work and I am sorry but theres is no way they could be spending all the money they make to be trying to charges now an aditional $50.00 somebody is getting paid big time at VSDA, personaly I hope they go down the drain as the song goes we have each other here in our little corner of the net and this move by VSDA will help us grow big time.
Welcome to all the new members

YES
Actually I believe that the VSDA started dying and ignoring the IVRs when it moved from New Jersey to Lalaland. A lot has happened since then, the EVES (cripe Im not sure if I spelled that correctly) fiasco and his continus brown ring around his mouth from kissing studio butt. He is the driving force behind the independant retailer not having a voice today.
Oftem thought it should change it's name to something that sounds more like an organization that supports only studios and chain stores, like maybe BVSDA, for Big Video Software Dealers Association.
