I use 2 different computers to access this site. (work & home)
I have repeatedly checked the options on both computers which ask about automatically logging in.
I receive mail notices regarding topics I'm interested in and then use the links to access the forum.  I seem to usually arrive at the last post and then that makes it easy to respond.
I spend 10"-15" typing the response, select "submit" and end up (at least often enough to aggravate the bejeebers out of me) at the log-in prompt screen, which would be ok, except that invariably everything I just poured out onto the form is irrevocably lost forever.
Of course I generally don't have the energy to try to recall it all and retype it all over again.

What am I doing wrong or what is going wrong and how do I stop this aggravation?

could be problems with your cookies.

do you use the "quick reply" field to leave a post? Perhaps use the "post reply" button instead. That way, if you're not logged in, it will ask you to log in when it loads the posting page.

are you using firefox or ie?

"Quick" when it is to be short, but usually the "post reply" if it is "longer".  hehehe...
The last time, I did attempt to submit to "post reply", it did ask me to log in, but I saw no evidence ramin of my lengthy response.

I am using Firefox. The box is checked to "Allow sites to set cookies." & to keep cookies "til they expire".

What I will try to remember to do to safeguard my work is to select all my written text and copy it before clicking the "Submit" button.  That way, in cases something doesn't work, I may be able to retain what I've painstakingly typed.  ;-)

Ok, let me know if it keeps it up. It had sessions expiring in 1 hour. I upped it to close to a month (max the software will do currently).

Now that I logged in AGAIN, my cookies are wide open, I've lost typed text in both the quick and normal reply because the system wants me to login again.  So it isn't just happening to one person, it's at least two. I've also tried from home and the store with the same result.

Will I be lucky this time?

Okay Rich, now please reveal what it was that you did to fix it for you, unless it was on the server side of the operation.

Just for the record, this has never happened to me, but I'm anal and usually click "Preview" before actually posting.  I'm using IE 6.0 on WinXP and ZoneAlarm (free).  I mention ZoneAlarm because the pro version has some type of security for cookies I believe.
