I've had several people ask since Christmas.
Do you only get the biggest titles ?

I started to bring in Blu ray about 8 months ago. It has been very slow although I have seen an uptick in rentals since Thanksgiving. Some are new players purchased and some have been new customers as the word is starting to get out that I have them.

Generally I only bring in big title that have good action features ie Eagle Eye, Dark Knight, Wanted etc. I guess I don't see the point in bringing in the comedies and dramas in blu ray.

We've carried Blu-Ray for over a year now, it is just now picking up as customers in our area are slowly getting the flat panel TV's and pricing of Blu-Ray Players is now making it so it appeals to the masses.  Just bringing in one or two copies of the major hits each week.  Once someone sees the difference between Blu-Ray and regular DVD, there's no going back.  By starting over a year ago, we now have over 150 titles on Blu-Ray to choose from and to the customer,  it looks like we are serious about it.  New Blu-Ray owners don't mind watching older movies that they've seen on DVD so in time, we will make our investment back.

We started adding blu-ray about a year ago and used to only buy the biggest name titles, however we have been grabbing anything blu-ray we can cherry pick or on Sony from Rentrack. We used to  have 1 or 2 blu-ray titles a week, over the last couple weeks we have been adding about 4 to 8 blu-ray titles a week.

We have a huge high-def tv in the store always playing blu-rays (we have had several customers tell us they bought blu-ray because they saw how nice it was in our store). We rent somewhere around 5 blu-ray titles a day (not a huge amount, but its growing).

I also have been carrying Blu-ray for a year now.  Like everyone else it is now starting to pick up.  I used Rentrak's Sony Blu-ray program from last year and even tho I still dished out 400. in EOT fees, I am happy I did.  I now have a decent catalog section and have been bringing in NR's on major titles (just 1 or 2 copies each) since then.

I now have over 200 Blu-rays and a really good selection of PS3 games. The majority of my customers have PS3's as opposed to Blu-ray players.

The only problem that I foresee is that now some of those Blu-ray customers have become Blu-ray snobs.  That's all they want.  I explain to them that we DO NOT carry EVERY Blu-ray, that we only carry the ones that we feel will benefit from blu-ray.

I believe that I'm close to 250 titles on Blu-ray.  Like others here I recommend getting anything action or sci-fi based then spread out your decisions from there.  To set myself apart I am ordering anything out of the ordinary:  Criterion discs, Caligula, Baraka, and even Faces of Death are available!

I carry about 60 titles. Mostly action and sci fi. Though I want to get all the current Pixar movies available as well as the two platinum release Disney cartoons.

I just can't justify bringing in any of the Disney or Pixar blu-rays.  1. cause of the price and I don't feel I will make any money back on them and 2. If the kids treat the Blu-rays like the reg DVD's I would be replacing them a lot.  At least I can resurface the regular DVD's.  I don't know if just my store but kids treat them like frisbees and coasters.

BTW  Welcome to the board Thompotter.

Thanks.

I'm such a big fan of the Pixar stuff that even if I don't make a profit on them I'd be okay. I can watch them over and over and they're great for playing at the store. As for the kids, parents know if they come back damaged they're paying a $30 replacement fee and I wipe clean each disc as they go out so they know that I know when it left the store it was fine. I rarely have discs ruined.

As for the Disney platinum line on blu ray, if they continue to include a DVD copy along with Blu-ray then that's just either a bonus rental to go along in the DVD section or a quick sale for me at $10-$15.

I only get one or two blu rays a week

February 3rd Taxi Driver \m/

February 10th is Donnie Darko and My Name Is Bruce(I know Bruce won't get too much of a hi def upgrade but I'm a Campbell geek so to hell with it)

February 17th Passion Of the Christ (that's going to look so damn painful)

February 24th Futurama Into the Wild Green Yonder and maybe The French Connection

March 3rd Brokeback Mountain

March 10th is a good week. Synecdoche New York(YES!!!), Pinocchio, Batman: The Motion Picture Anthology

A drama every now and then is okay, but comedy is pointless to have to on blu ray at these prices. Most animation is just beautiful and really catches people's eye if you happen to have a blu ray player at the store.

Actually the bonus DVD is a nice replacement for the old Gold Classics Collection that have had up to 9 years of wear and tear on them. Just through out the old disc and keep the case.
