I have New releases and Hot New (2-3 weeks fresh). They are both 2 day rentals. Which actually ends up being a three nighter because they are not due untill we close on 2nd day.

My hot stuff is almost gone from the shelves by the end of Friday and I dont see the copies again untill Monday, which is too late and they mostly sit there until the next week-end.

I am thinking of going 1 day rental on Hot New. They rent so well, I want to increase the number of turns. I cannot afford to increase copy-depth right now. I now have 15 each vs 3 when I opened 6 months ago Smiley

Another idea I am thinking about is Friday Night Special on Hot New Releases. Which is 30% off on Fridays, as long as they bring it back on Saturday by 4PM. (Otherwise regular fees apply). That way I can rent it again on Saturday.

What do you guys think?

Hollywood does that by giving you $1.00 back if you bring it back the next day off their $3.99 rental. Might want to think about that. If you lower your rental perioud it will be perceived as raising your prices.

If you have not done so yet, you might want to take a look at Rentrak.  I used to bring in 15 to 20 copies of A titles and had the same problem when I went to two days.  I now use Rentrak and for no money up front and a 60% to 40% split in my favor I now bring in 50 to 75 copies.  I do not use it on every title, but it takes the pressure off the ones that I do not use Rentrak with.  I have been on the program for 8 years and if used carefully, it works well in competing with the chains.
