I would just like to know if anyone else is in close competition with Movie Gallery?  They just moved in to our town, 3 months ago, we have seen a large dip in sales.  About 1/3 of monthly sales so far.  The other ivr in town closed up so it's just us and them.   One of the things we have going for us is that we are on the opposite ends of town.  We went to one and five day rentals months before they opened so customers didn't think it was such a big deal when they did it.  They did do a sale for about 4-6 weeks of 99 cents on everything in store.  We couldn't match that so we just stuck it out and did okay.  We are already starting to get some customers back due to their (MG) bad customer service.  We also have a better selection of catalog, they focus on new releases and games.  We'll see what happens in the coming months.  We are trying to focus on customer service and a friendly atmosphere in our store.  Our prices are the same as theirs.  Is anyone else competing with them?  Let me know your strategy!!

Hi Heather,

I opened up in April, But we have a Movie Gallery here but it's at the other end of town, But we also have a BB and that one is only 5 miles down the road. But i noticed the customers complain about the service and about their prices. BB here in Bristol, CT charges $4.76 out the door. But i offer the new releases for two nights at $3.99 out the door. They also like the idea that my movie's have to be back before i close on the due date instead of 12:00 like BB. But customers love great customer service thats for sure thats what we strive on.

But i say just keep doing what you are doing and it should work out. Justed wanted to say good luck.

Hey I am glad you stuck it out, as in every industry new is great everybody likes new but new gets old and they will start to look for the service we independents give.

Good Luck
