Hi everyone,
We're finally moving into our new location at the end of this month and I am in need to find a good distributor for adult titles. Will will be needing to bring in 250-500 more copies to fill our new adult room. I am looking for a distributor with low to median pricing but good quality films-no homemade stuff. Anyone with suggestions, please list distributor and contact info. I am in the Southeast.
Thanks in advance! sherrie

Agreed on IVD. Web access and backstock... two things that other distributors don't have.

Thanks again IVR and Marc for the info. I spoke with CeeCee today and she is getting me set up to order form them. One thing I forgot to ask her- she spoke of weekly NR's and catalog but she didnt say anything about the price range. What is the average price range of their products NR & catalog?
Thanks again for your help! Sherrie

True new releases gor for $14-$18 for the most part with some going up to $26. Many people will say there is no point in spending money on new releases every week but instead buy repriced product. I don't agree with that and neither do the most successful retailers I know. You might get away with a mix of new and old but many of your adult customers are very aware of what is really new and what isn't. You try to fool them and they'll go somewhere else. Those are the customers who spend the most money so don't do anything to lose them.
As far as catalog they have specials every week in every price range and genre.

Yep I agree with IVR...can you imagine what would happen if all you stocked in the front of your store was repriced titles? One thing that has been very successful for us is we reduce the price of adult titles to $19.99 or 3 for $50 after they have been in the store for 15 weeks. This allows us to get back about what we spent for the expensive titles so there is almost no risk...IMO if you wait too long to reduce the price they won't sell and this plan quickly falls apart

I carry alot of repriced titles along with a very few new ones mixed in.
I offer the titles as 12.99 or 3 for $30 for sale. $4.50 for 3 days for rent.
I stock approx 200-300 titles at a time. About half the titles rent out at least once a week. I bring in about 50 new titles a week to replace ones I have sold.
Titles like Paris Hilton and Pirates are marked NOT FOR SALE. But otherwise everything is for sale.
I do get comments from customers asking about newer ones but the margin of profit I've had doing things this way just outweighed the days I brought in New titles.
I am one of the few it works with.
My regulars are just happy to see something new each week.

Any particular reason you aren't selling those as well?

Any particular reason you aren't selling those as well? at 12.99 and 3 for $30 it would be a loss. Those titles are premium priced and they rent out constantly. Paris Hilton has been one of the top rentals, Adult and Regular for the last 2 years!!!! So I just tell people we can special order them for $29.99ea new.

Ok, I have gotten signed up with IVD for new products & medium priced products but would like to add some cheapies also to the room. I have found many websites with prices from $1.00 to 2.00. Has anyone purchased from any of the low prices distributors online and if so, who would you recommend I use that has quality product for the price. Anyone ever purchased from wholesaledvdsforless.com ? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
Does anyone have a list of good suppliers for adult dvs between $1-$2
Thanks sherrie

IVD has weekly specials on this kind of product. Talk to your rep and also ask to get on the email list they send out daily and weekly.

I've never bought from wholesaledvdsforless.com specifically, but these $1/$2 movies are often compilations of old scenes. Now that fine for a place that is starting out, but here's the problem when you buy in bulk from a place like that or say ebay. Let's say you buy 50. Those 50 may have 4 hours of video each, but among the 50 they may share 2 maybe even three hours of the same material.
If your not watching so what, but if you plan to have these out for rent it will become very obvious to your renters that the box cover might change, but the movie inside may have one or two different scenes and then a lot of the same stuff over and over.
That isn't to say there isn't a place for filler like this. It's great filler for the walls. You can price them at $10 bucks or buy 2 get one free. The one or two dollar hit is easy to take when people are buying a lot of them. Also you may be able to rent them out for more than you bought them, always a nice option. But these sort of movies need to be mixed in with other products.
Either other cheap titles (different producer=different material), or newer product. My store is a mix of all forms of titles. I bring in AVN winners and put stickers on them labeling them as such. I bring in a lot of "New" Catalog Releases. These are movies that are brand new additions to their 'old' stuff. That is they are the 'newest' old stuff. These run about $3-$5 each, maybe up to $12. Finally I bring in the comp's for a buck or two each.
Next month is year two for me, I'm still learning and there are far more successful stores than me. So it's not place to argue with them, however my customers don't seem to mind the difference between a 2007 and a 2005 movie. My theory is, it's recent enough to look new. Now when you bring in something with 80's hair cuts or 70's film quality the customer has something to bitch about.
One of the things I've pushed for here and helped me alot was making all my product Rent or Buy. The buy price should be high enough to pay for the item and you shouldn't have a problem.
Concerning the owner that says he'd lose money on Paris Hilton. I would either tag it different saying the Buy 3 doesn't apply or sell your store copy and buy a new one for the store.
This is typically what I do with my Super Turn Adult Movies like Paris Hilton. If a person wants that movie, I sell the used store copy and order a new one for the store. My Paris Hilton and Pirates movies always look brand new and scratch free because I'm constantly selling the old junky one and replacing them. I'm also selling them at a price high enough to pay for a new copy so it works for me.
Something to consider.
