Luckily I haven't had any major problems with this.  I only once have had to pop in it and play it for the customer who said it wouldn't play at all, they took it back and called to say it was playing after all Smiley

You definitely have to put it in the reel player and if it has a problem then they get it resurfaced and they have it for the same time alotted the rental agreement.  We sell magnavox dvd players from sams wholesale at a markup for anyone who has a problem player.  I sold 140 players last year.  I dont have much problem at all because the people know how its going to be handled.  Most movie watchers know how to wipe down a dvd and if it is scratched then they realize its the dvd if not then its their player.

Wow you made a nice little profit from them huh.  How do you go about pushing them or do you just display them and sell them as customers buy them.

This is how you work it.  You use the same dvd player to run your store reel through then you tell the customers, this dvd player runs in our store 10 hours a day everyday and it has been running over a year without a problem.  They see it for themselves.  I put out a sign in a nice acrylic holder that says these dvd players are bought wholesale and this great price is being passed on to you.  The only thing I ask is that these players be purchased by our customers only, a limit one per customer.

Then people off the street you have never met before stop in and want two of them, seriously.  Its really comical.  The best part is that when your in store player goes out on you, you just open a box and get it back out playing, clean off the old one and wrap it back up and then tell sams that one didnt work for you.  I buy them a cartload at a time so they arent going to complain.  Absolutely every store should carry a good cheap dvd player for sale, you will be suprised how many you will sell the first month.

I had thought about selling them but was unsure how it would go over and where to find them cheap so I could mark them up some.  Thanks for the input.   I will try to sell them now for sure.

I don't have a Costo.  I could order online but returning would be a big hassle.

Here's a good (long 8O ) thread from a bunch of consumer electronics enthusiasts about how easy or difficult it is to scratch HD DVD and Blu-ray:
